Instead of fighting for the top spot with schemes that will never get you there, you should focus more on providing better and more relevant content for your customers. It will get you further for much longer.

During the short term, the simple SEO tactics that are commonly used can help you but long term, they will hurt you. Putting in better business practices for your website will help you in the long run. Focus more on content with rich keywords instead of poor content with keywords stuffed throughout.
